Quetico Country Hunts is located on the northern bounday of Quetico Park in Atikokan, Ontario. Atikokan is on Hwy 11, 90 miles east of International Falls, MN and 120 miles west of Thunder Bay, Ontario. Bud Dickson and Jim Clark formed Quetico Country Hunts in 1973. Shane Selman is now in charge of the hunts and is capably assisted by several topnotch guides. For more than 30 years Shane has trapped, hunted, and guided in the Quetico / White Otter area.

Things you need to know!

Canadian Customs

When entering Canada, you must show proof of citizenship (passport, birth certificate, drivers licence). You are allowed to bring bows and rifles, but no handguns or fully automatic rifles. A clip is restricted to five rounds. You may also bring along 200 rounds of ammunition. You are allowed 40oz. of alcohol or 24 cans of beer and one carton of cigarettes; duty free.

Canadian Gun Laws

All clients entering Canada with a firearm must complete the non-residential firearm declaration form prior to entering Canada. Forms can be downloaded from the RCMP website or phone 1-800-731-4000. There is a fee of $25.00 per firearm.

Things you need to know

Hunting and fishing licenses not included in packages. Blaze orange must be worn when traveling in and out of bait sites. All guns and bows must be encased after legal shooting time. Guns must be declared when entering Canada. You must have proof of insurance if you bring a 4-wheeler, and helmets must be worn. You must bring your own tree stands. We use forty to fifty thousand pounds of bait each year, and start baiting in mid-July to ensure that baits are working for our customers. For groups of six or more there is a 10% discount. You must have a passport to travel across the border. If you have a DUI or other criminal conviction we can help.

  • Except for fully guided packages, guides are $250 a day
  • Taxes are approximately 13%
  • Each year our clients harvest moose with 50" spread or better
  • Atikokan is adjacent to one of the most protected parks in Canada
  • All of our guides are experienced moose hunters
  • We don't hunt all of our fly-in camps every year
  • The rut usually peaks between Sept 24 and Sept 27

Conservation Policy

Shane has worked with MNR biologists for many years. As a result, since 1993, Quetico Country Hunts has only allowed the harvest of one bear per 50 square kilometres.

Fly-in Archery

7 Days / 7 Nights | $8,000USD + 13% tax / Hunter, licenses and guide fees (if applicable)

Our fly-in cabines are located in Wildlife Units 11A, 12B, and 12A. Cabins have:

  • solar lights
  • propane fridge and stove
  • barbecue
  • fish cookers
  • hot and cold running water
  • showers
If you are looking for a remote wilderness experience, the fly-in is what you want. Accessible only by floatplane, you are the only ones on the lake. You can get away from it all, while enjoying some fantastic fishing for smallmouth, walleye, northern pike, and lake trout. Hunters can do it themselves or take a guide. Packages include flights in and out, flying out of moose, boats, Yamaha motors, gas, canoes, and cooler service at main base. Hunters need to provide groceries for themselves and the guide, hunting equipment, and all personal items.

Drive-in Archery Hunt

7 Days / 7 Nights | $7,000USD + 13% tax / Hunter, licences and guide fees (if applicable)

Our drive-in cabines on Nym Lake and Price Creek are located in Wildlife Units 11A, and 12B. Hunters will enjoy the comforts of home while hunting old cutovers and small lakes. Boats, Yamaha motors, canoes, cooler service are provided. Hunters need to provide their own vehicle / transportation for hunting and groceries. Hunters must take a guide for this hunt. Guide fees are an extra cost.

Fully Guided Archery Hunt One-on-One

7 Days / 7 Nights | $14,950USD + 13% tax, guide fees and licenses included

The hunt includes all groceries, meals, licenses, Bull tag, guide, flights to and from cabin, flying out of game, cooler service, land and water transportation, and accommodations.

Drive-in Rifle Hunt Cow and/or Calf

7 Days / 7 Nights | $4,000USD + 13% tax, and licenses

Package is same as drive-in archery moose hunt, except you are hunting cow and/or calf. Hunters must take a guide for this hunt. We also hunt area 12A with this hunt. Guide fees are an extra cost.

Bear Hunts

Bear Hunt - A

6 Days / 5 Nights | $1,395USD + 13% tax and licenses / Hunter

Hunters will camp at one of our remote campsites located on a lake or river system so that some fishing can be enjoyed when not hunting. This is a great hunt for those who like to be on their own, and use ATVs to access their baits. Distance from main base can be 15 to 50 miles. Together we will decide what suits you the best. Canoes, paddles, PFDs, extra bait, freezer service, skinning and showers at main base are provided. Guests are responsible for transportation to and from baits..

Bear Hunt - B

6 Days / 5 Nights | $1,895USD + 13% tax and licenses / Hunter

Upon arrival hunters are briefed on regulations, shot placement, etc brought out to their cabin. Shown their bait sites. Hunters now should hang stands/blinds, set up trail cameras. Baits are the hunter's responsibility for the duration of their hunt. Hunters are responsible for transportation to and from baits, rebaiting, keeping sites clean and tidy.

All bait is included. Cabins are fully equipped, boats, motors and gas for boats are provided. Staff are available to help recover bears and skin if needed.

Fly-in Bear Hunt

6 Days / 5 Nights | $2,695USD + 13% tax and licenses / Hunter

The fly-in is a great hunt for the experienced bear hunter, as hunters have to do their own skinning and meat preparation. Lakes are fly-in accessible only, which offers our guests a remote wilderness experience. Cabins have propane fridge, stove, barbecue, fish cooker, solar lights, hot and cold running water with showers, and outdoor privies.

Boats, Yamaha motors, gas, flights in and out, flying out of bear, and freezer service are provided. Hunters are limited to 200lbs of gear each.

Guided Bear Hunt

6 Days / 5 Nights | $3,095USD + 13% tax and licenses / Hunter

For the guided hunt, hunters will be dropped off and picked up each morning/night to hunt. Guides will aslo run extra baits and check cameras. Suppers will be ready for hunters when they return from hunting. Meal planning will be done in advance of hunt to meet group approval. Price includes: guides, transportation to and from baits, suppers, groceries for lunches and breakfasts, cabin, boats, Yamaha motors, and gas.

Guided Bear Hunt NO MEALS

6 Days / 5 Nights | $2,395USD + 13% tax and licenses / Hunter

Huntesr are responsible for groceries and their own cooking. A guide will take care of all baits. Treestands are provided. Hunters must provide their own fall-arrest systems.

Meat Preparation

Skinning, meat preparation, freezer service, all the bait you need, and quality service are provided for all our Bear Hunts. Guests are responsible for their baits and picking up any garbage they pout out, as well as transportation to and from their baits while hunting.

Information

What to Bring

Bring normal hunting gear and clothing, according to the season you will be hunting. Also rain gear, sleeping bags, tree stands, game bag or cheese cloth, soft covered bow/gun case, rubber boots, knife, compass, waterproof matches, meat sacks, rope, sunglasses, field glasses, camera, film, personal towels, fishing tackle, rod and reel (light spinning gear is best). IMPORTANT: bring an old hunting license, orange hunting vest and hat.

Hunting Season / Licenses

Bring and old hunting license from the state you reside in, as you must prove that you hold a valid hunting license before you can be issued an Ontario hunting license.
